Description

Limits on backup disk space usage are currently managed manually by BitFolk; a report is generated daily and if we find time we contact anyone who has gone over their allowance for backups disk space usage. If the customer fails to reply in a reasonable amount of time then we suspend the backups feature, and may end up having to delete some of their backups. This is too much work and is not very user-friendly.

It would be better if an automated system would alert the customer when some percentage of their backup allocation is used, and then automatically suspend the feature if the limit is exceeded. This could work similarly to the warnings for transfer quota.

Support for this has been implemented in BitFolk's Nagios.

Now when you request that a backup service be set up for you, additional Nagios checks are automatically created. These checks monitor:

  • how old your most recent backup is.
  • how much disk space is being used by your backups in total.

Warnings start being sent at 95% and go critical at 99%. Backups will continue to be taken even if the usage goes above 100%, but BitFolk will contact customers whose usage goes above 100% to ask what they want to do about it.

So, this feature request is complete.
